Shelly Feaver, chair of the John Willmott School recently reflected on a very successful first year of the new John Willmott School Parents Teacher and Friends Association (PTFA).
YEAR ONE REPORT
"We have just passed our first year milestone as a PTFA and it has been a successful and fun one. During 2007 we held four fund raising events (2 race nights and 2 quiz nights) – from the proceeds of these events we have been able to make the first payment on an additional mini-bus for school use – proceeds from future events will be used to pay the final payment.
"The PTFA have also been able to fund a variety of other things:-
- a chess set which was presented as a prize for the chess competition
- some prizes for children at the School Prize afternoon (January 11th 2008 )
- gift voucher for the winner of the PTFA logo competition
- provision of refreshments for new year 7 Parents and children – to welcome them to the school
- purchase of the performing rights for Willy Russell’s ‘A Good Day Out’ – which is to be performed by the Drama Department later in the year.
"We have also been on hand to sell and serve refreshments at a number of school events – sometimes it’s a bit hectic but we always seem to manage – thanks to the commitment, enthusiasm and resourcefulness of the PTFA members.
"It is very satisfying to see the outcome or our hard work being of benefit to the school and our children. We have also enjoyed 2 social events for PTFA members – a meal in august and an evening at Perry Barr Dogs in December. We are proving to be a very sociable group and are looking forward to arranging more social events in 2008.
"It’s been interesting throughout this last year to see how we pull together as a team. In amongst our group we have some superb organisational skills, heaps of common sense teamed with bags of enthusiasm, commitment and a well developed sense of humour.
"I personally would like to thank the PTFA team for all their efforts, friendship and support over this last year. It’s been hard work, very rewarding and lots of fun … I look forward to more this year !!!"
